Voting

I voted today. Despite the fact that Bush will carry Texas, I cast my ballot for Senator Kerry. I'm simply amazed that people will vote for our incumbent after he lied to the American people to go to war, backs hate-filled amendments, and makes lousy domestic and foreign policy decisions. I want Kerry to have a strong showing in Texas just to embarass Bush. Bush gloated in the fact that he carried Arkansas and Tennessee in the 2000 election, and his arrogance needs to be rubbed back in his face. He has abandoned traditional Republican values. In fact, Bob Barr endorses Libertarian Michael Badnarik. Yet, another Republican abandoning Bush.

And for all the lobbing of the label "flip flop" at John Kerry, George Bush seems to have flip flopped on the gay marriage issue. Suddenly, just a scant week before the election, he supports civil unions. WTF?!?!?!? Sorry honey, but it's too little too late. Your sudden but short-lived dance to the middle will do you no good. The gay community has heard you deride us for years. Your about-face will get you no votes.

I love this quote from the Des Moines Register in its endorsement of Kerry:

Yes, Kerry is liberal. But what's to fear from a liberal president? That he would run big deficits? That he would increase federal spending? That he would expand the power of the federal government over individuals' lives? Nothing Kerry could do could top what President Bush has already done in those realms.

How fun is that! And was anyone else expecting an October surprise? I figure we would have seen Osama bin Laden wheeled out, Hannibal Lecter style, in full-view of the media. So what is the rabbit Rove will pull out of his hat? I dunno, but stay tuned.
